Charismatic personality and god gifted voice has made Raju Lama one of the popular pop icon in Nepal. I had a chance to have short chitchat with him on Jan 23 Seoul South Korea. It was program organized by Mustang community to celebrate lunar New Year in Korea. It was not a formal interview but I was so happy to meet him in person I couldn’t stop writing about him.
Vision Korea Project 2011 was organized together by Asia exchange association, Ministry of public administration and security and KINSA on 2011 12.18-22 at Seoul “Olympic Parktel”. The main objective of this project was to share and exchange ideas about the problems Asian students who are pursuing their studies here in Korea.
This kind of program is usually very progressive for interaction between different people from different countries. It was good platform for exchanging culture, perspective and sharing problems with each other. It is said positive thinking will create your future. In my personal opinion, it is one of the best ways to create a better future. Mostly Asian, countries have similar custom and values; however, there are few cultural differences. It was nice experience to know about their culture, language and perspective on the problems that foreign students are facing in Korea. Despite, of all the cultural difference, problems we are facing seemed to be more or less similar. 12 teams were designated to develop the proposal on the problem students are facing and how can we solve it. 2 days were given to us to prepare both proposal and power point presentation on it.
“Seollal” is one of the biggest festivals celebrated to mark lunar New Year in Korea. It falls at the end of January every year. This festival marks the harmony, peace and prosperity. It is typically a family holiday. Koreans celebrate this New Year with full enthusiasm. Mostly they pay respect (greetings) to their elders and ancestors. As a blessing they get money from their elders. They also prepare special kinds of Korean foods like, “Takguk” (Soup of rice cakes), “Manduguk” (soup of dumplings), “Jhan” (pancake with vegetables and meat), (“Takmanduguk”) mixture of “takguk” and “manduguk”.
To mark New Year many professor and teachers invite us for a New Year party where I could taste different kind of Korean traditional food. It was really nice experience to taste these foods. I liked “jhan” (Korean traditional pancake) and “manduguk”. However, “takguk” was not suitable for my taste. In this days all the family member gather together, make foods and enjoy the warm foods in cold weather. They also play different kinds of traditional games. Many Koreans dress up in colorful traditional dress known as “Hanbok” however, now-a-days they tend to wear other formal clothing instead of traditional ones.
I hope coming New Year are full of surprises, happiness and prosperity. Finally, I would like to wish you all happy “Seollal”.
Dashain and Tihar are two great festivals; celebrated in Nepal. Blessing, harmony, peace and fun are bestowed in these two auspicious occasions all over the country. 10 days long prayers had been already finished yesterday with the final grand ceremony where all the people celebrated great Dashami with tika, jamara and blessings from the elder.
Both the festival marks the happiness and end of the yearly harvest. People are free from all the harvesting and it’s time to celebrate their hard work and good harvest. Tihar is festival of lights, flower and fruits. It symbolizes the bond between nature, animal and characterizes the beautiful and strong bond between brothers and sisters. It is also marked as festival of brothers and sisters. I love Tihar festival more than Dashain as this is the festival where there is no practice of animal sacrifices. Lots of flowers and lights are used to decorate the houses and street all over the country. Both these festival has cultural and religious values. I can say proudly that our country is indeed rich with culture where we are taught to love and protect fauna and flora. We are taught to love and beloved. I would like to wish all the people happy Dashain and Tihar 2068. May our country be blessed with “Goddess Durga” and may peace and prosperity prevail our country and countrymen.

However, everyone wants to be happy and make others happy. One great day for spreading happiness is New year’s eve or new year day; New year means new hope, dreaming high, making new resolutions, taking a break from hectic work schedule and so on.

Dreaming and living goes hand - hand to me. Dreams are great supporters of my inner views, thought and thinking. My dreams aspires me, give me new hope, and make me enthusiastic and cheerful. Dreams of high aspirations, romantic foolishness, childish behavior, fairy tales and beautiful places cannot be expressed in few words. My dreams have no boundaries, no limitations. It’s my best friend. No deception, no liabilities, no pain and flawless. I wish to fly high and flow all along like a river. Whenever and whatever hard befalls my dreams always makes me aware of many facts. It always warns me to move positively in positive direction. It keeps on inspiring me to move forward to gain whatever I aimed for; love of my life, my career and many social works that I really want to do. Read more
Leonardo da Vinci's "Mona Lisa" is examined with a noninvasive technique called X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy to study the thickness of paint layers and their chemical composition.
PARIS — The enigmatic smile remains a mystery, but French scientists say they have cracked a few secrets of the “Mona Lisa.”
French researchers studied seven of the Louvre Museum’s Leonardo da Vinci paintings, including the “Mona Lisa,” to analyze the master’s use of successive ultrathin layers of paint and glaze — a technique that gave his works their dreamy quality.
Specialists from the Center for Research and Restoration of the Museums of France found that da Vinci painted up to 30 layers of paint on his works to meet his standards of subtlety. Added up, all the layers are less than 40 micrometers, or about half the thickness of a human hair, researcher Philippe Walter said Friday.
The technique, called “sfumato,” allowed Leonardo to give outlines and contours a hazy quality and create an illusion of depth and shadow. His use of the technique is well-known, but scientific study on it has been limited because tests often required samples from the paintings. Read more
One sunny day I was wondering through the wide fields of mustard. Scenery was great, I felt like heaven. The smell of the mustard was passing through whispering my skin. Then one thought come upon to me. Do plants have any feelings? Do plants suffer like human, etc.etc? It was quite obvious as living things plants may too feel pain but till the date no one knows how the plants really feel. Plants acquire diseases. I have heard and seen lots of epidemic that destroy tons of food and cash crop all over the world. I have seen farmers complaining about the lesser yields of crops. Many scientists are working in the field of plant pathology. It is a science that studies plant disease and attempts to improve the chances for survival of plants when they are faced with unfavorable environmental conditions that cause disease. The concept of plant and plant disease is old and long. Moreover, in this new era it also involves the molecular understanding of disease agents like bacteria, fungi, virus and insects. It deals with study of pathogenicity, bio control mechanism and genes responsible for this activity. It really covers the vast area. What really seize my interest was to know about the pioneer Read more
Wonderful is the world as wonderful the smile of a little child. Who says life is a dark hologram full of struggle and failure. Can’t you see “ Every dark cloud has a sliver lining.” There is always a beautiful morning after dark nights.
