The Berlin International Film Festival well known as the Berlinale is an annual Film festivals celebrated to provide a common platform to World Cinema artistic and technical peoples for achieving excellence in their respective fields. The Berlin International Film Festival was established in the year of 1951. The first Berlin International Film Festival was held in Berlin, Germany. This world class film festivals generally takes place in the month of Feb at Berlin. The 2012 Berlin International Film Festival will be the 62nd edition of this premier world film festivals. I am so happy to know that “Highway” Nepali movie is nominated under the panorama fictional films section in 62nd Berlin Festival. It’s a milestone to Nepali Film Industry. The story goes like this: a man from Kathmandu and his wife have been trying unsuccessfully to have a child. The man travels to the mountains of eastern Nepal to seek help from a miracle healer. The healer indeed has a magic potion for him but tells the man he must get back to his wife within thirty-six hours for the medicine to work. The bus that winds its way through the narrow streets, hills and valleys of Nepal is full of people who all need to be somewhere else in a hurry – to meet an internet chat lover, bring someone some money for medicine, or to visit their parents. But the travellers are obliged to stop again and again on account of general strikes, traffic jams, breakdowns and angry villagers. Some of these obstacles are overcome by the passengers themselves, who get to know each other during the trip they even dress up as a wedding party in order to be allowed to keep moving. Meanwhile, at home, everything has changed.
Deepak Rauniyar’s first feature-length drama is a road movie that is full of surprises and passion; it is also an unflinching portrayal of life in Nepal today.

Charismatic personality and god gifted voice has made Raju Lama one of the popular pop icon in Nepal. I had a chance to have short chitchat with him on Jan 23 Seoul South Korea. It was program organized by Mustang community to celebrate lunar New Year in Korea. It was not a formal interview but I was so happy to meet him in person I couldn’t stop writing about him.

Dashain and Tihar are two great festivals; celebrated in Nepal. Blessing, harmony, peace and fun are bestowed in these two auspicious occasions all over the country. 10 days long prayers had been already finished yesterday with the final grand ceremony where all the people celebrated great Dashami with tika, jamara and blessings from the elder.
Both the festival marks the happiness and end of the yearly harvest. People are free from all the harvesting and it’s time to celebrate their hard work and good harvest. Tihar is festival of lights, flower and fruits. It symbolizes the bond between nature, animal and characterizes the beautiful and strong bond between brothers and sisters. It is also marked as festival of brothers and sisters. I love Tihar festival more than Dashain as this is the festival where there is no practice of animal sacrifices. Lots of flowers and lights are used to decorate the houses and street all over the country. Both these festival has cultural and religious values. I can say proudly that our country is indeed rich with culture where we are taught to love and protect fauna and flora. We are taught to love and beloved. I would like to wish all the people happy Dashain and Tihar 2068. May our country be blessed with “Goddess Durga” and may peace and prosperity prevail our country and countrymen.
